You are right Barkleydave about the tachs. I think I did not reconnect the original ground wire back to the negitive side of the coil. The only ground wire connected to the coil now is from the new distributor. Next time will reconnect and see what happens.

While the cap is off, I 'exercise' the advance mechanism by flipping it back and forth a few dozen times.

I just got a new distributor from them as a field test. Did anyone using these have to machine the spacer to get them to work? I either have the wrong model or need to modify the cast sleeve. Not sure what's going on.
Thanks

Are you working with a reverse rotation engine? THEY require the sleeve to hold the oil pump gear down.

Sbd has collar I missed first time. It was still stuck on the old presto lite

Yes this is a reverse rotation and I have the sleeve off the presto but the new dizy base and sleeve dont match up with out me turning the counter bore in the sleeve. I can do that with no problem and could also take the gear clearance shims out at the same time bye taking a little off the bottom but l guess I will wait until Monday and talk with Roger at pertronix. Just another weekend gone jerking with this thing. If this is a correct distributor I feel people are going to screw up and be very unhappy if they try and use it out of the box. It would work but the base would be off to the gear and the hold down surface would not be parrall to the block surface. It sounds like they make just the one sb chry dizzy so not sure.

When would you know if there is a problem if you didn't install the sleeve? I don't remember anything different between stb and port distributors when I changed them out, and pretty sure I didn't install a sleeve. They both turn the same way. I went with Mallories if it matters.

Yes they both turn the same way but the reverse rotation motor uses the sleeve to keep the gear in place the dizzy will set on the intake on a a standard rotation motor and have the spacer if it is a reverse rotation.
